See pantherfile folder, D2L fusion for ppts
Intro and Key Note, 1:30
John Baker confirmed once again that D2L is not selling
Key note: Michael Wesch
"seriously playful"
critical eye through youtube and rich media
"one wprld" video -- one love, peace, love each other, etc.
call to action
"medium is the message"
what student's say in these walls -- see his ppt
can we use twitter in the f2f large lecture?
are you students knowledgeable or knowledge-ABLE
See parker palmer 1997 for visual model of active, student-centered learning
love your audience! Diane, American Idol
Art of loving, Fromm 1956 - Read!
Goal of teaching -- real problems, together, harnessing social media resources
Why group is better!! cumulative # of years of experience, life, languages, kids, hours of classes > than 1 student or even 1 instructor
A vision of students today
How do I not do the final paper? the youtube video, the twitter hash, the facebook
3:15 Session (Charlene), Mobile Learning
Resources:

http://desire2learn.com/desire2learn2go/
http://mlearnopedia.com/
-->Disappointingly, no demo of D2L2Go, no case studies, nor any solutions, just considerations
4:30 Session, Kinder couple, How do we know that students are learning?
Concerned about their conception of assessment and evaluation. They frame it as assess as a method, data collection, specifically "gather data and measure" and evaluate as interpretation, "interpret data and use."
A session on "what do student's learn" = pre and post test...lol
Pre and post testing won't even capture what I want my students to learn. You can't measure someone's ability to be a critical thinker that can harness their resources, unless you count the students that are good at cheating :)
Tuesday
Morning - prepped for SL presentation
9:20 The Art of Creating Accessible Course Content (ends up being about Lodestar, similar to studymate)
See ppt
10:40am

balance your use of LMS #D2L with use of Second Life
Sheri Steinke
LUNCH -- 3 speaker panel
(see tweets)
Afternoon
2:30 Moving to Online
Very mature music professor discussed moving his course online
Had no knowledge to answer technical questions
His "assistant" did all the technical work for him
However, he was very enthusiastic
Did have a virtual piano, which was cool
See ppt in folder
3:50 Analytics
David Isserlin, Lead Developer Analytics
Brett Emmerton, D2L
9 steps to implementing analytics
D2L doesn't give us any of our data but we can by a 'new' product, d2l analytics, to get our data.
Can aggregate data from competencies, quizzes
Can integrate with people soft to pull in demographic info, profiles (extra $$)
Concern needs to be addressed regarding terrabytes of storage of datalogs
No one seemed aware of this tool
Kathy Cristoph (I think) was in the room and asked many questions
It seemed like an easy to use tool. It seemed robust.
After conference
Connection: Annette Beck, U of Iowa, Mobile Device, ePortfolio, clickers
Richard Gorrie, Guelph, Zimbra single sign on
Wednesday
Connected with Wendy, Akron, on Quality Matters (ePortfolio user group?)
9:15 D2L Bootcamp Training (Ridgewater college)

**Like the idea of LAB TIME during faculty development program
Integrated technical and pedagogical
**Have a great content planning worksheet
**Have librarian speak at workshop
**Faculty as student
10:45am "Got Faculty 2.0!"
The four presenters (and their focus in the presentation) are:
Darren York, Roane State Community College (yorkdl@roanestate.edu and @yorkdl on Twitter) FOCUS: Faculty Academy
Andrea Sanders, Chattanooga State Community College (andrea.sanders@chattanoogastate.edu and @andrea_s on Twitter

The presentation was very poorly organized. I don't consider web ex a social networking tool. Mary had the most knowledge and information.
